The levels of lead in new products will have to be reduced to almost zero by new EU legislation coming into force in August 2004
Lead has been of concern for many years.
Now, the EU is clamping down on the amount of lead in manufactured products and it's happening fast.
The levels of lead in new products, it is intended, will be reduced to almost zero by the new legislation. Many companies have already felt the impact of the changes and others soon will as from 13 August 2004.
Responsibility will pass to the manufacturer for collection and disposal of the products they produce.
Fischer Instrumentation have developed the Fischer XRF pin diode spectrometer which can measure with good accuracy, contamination in the 0.02-0.05% range.
This means the instrument can prove that the lead content is below the mandatory level, rather than simply show that lead contamination is present.
