FireWire video converter which digitises analogue signals from NTSC or Pal video and still cameras and medical devices is now available from UK distributor
Kane Computing is now distributing the PixeLink PL-A544 FireWire video converter in the UK.
The PL-A544 captures and converts NTSC/Pal video into digital images.
It transfers them to a host computer using a standard FireWire (IEEE1394) interface, eliminating the need for plug-in framegrabbers.
The PL-A544 series uses the FireWire digital bus protocol to streamline the capture, digitisation and conversion of analogue video from a variety of NTSC/Pal sources, including industrial video cameras, camcorders, and medical video devices.
The conversion of analogue video to uncompressed digital video ensures the highest possible image quality.
The video converter also supports third party software applications via three industry standard software interfaces: DirectShow, Twain, and QuickTime, including real-time compression.
Full software control is available and the Developers Kit offers an extensive Application Program Interface (API).
This API is designed to simplify the most common tasks associated with configuring, controlling and selecting the module's two NTSC/Pal video inputs.
Windows applications can also leverage the advanced command and control capabilities to enable direct communication with the attached imaging device RS-232 connectors.
Applications include microscopy, medical and biometric imaging, video conferencing systems, surveillance and security, webcasting or photo ID systems.
