Dr Toshikazu Kamiya, a senior scientist at Tsukuba Research Laboratories, Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd., has written a concise guide of amino acids
Amino acids are the building blocks of the human body and play a crucial role in protecting the body from disease and maintaining health.
Amino acids build cells and repair tissues, form antibodies that combat bacteria and viruses, and also help the body maintain healthy organs and tissues like bones and blood vessels.
They protect the body from disease, improve a variety of body functions, enhance performance, and stabilize neural disorders.
Many health food stores now stock amino acid-based products and dietary supplements, some of which are used and promoted by top athletes.
However, despite this increased awareness there is little in the way of easily understandable and accessible information about amino acids for the general public. Dr Toshikazu Kamiya, a senior scientist at Tsukuba Research Laboratories, Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd., one of the world's largest manufacturers of amino acids, has written a concise guide to amino acids, which responds to public demand for basic knowledge for amino acids and their important role in the human body.
Released in Japan in June 2002, Dr Kamiya's 180page book, "The Amino Acid Bible", provides a simple, non-technical explanation for consumers about how amino acids can make a substantial contribution to the improvement of human health.
"The Amino Acid Bible" immediately gathered interest from outside Japan and is planned to be translated into Chinese.
Starting with a brief background on the science of amino acids, Dr Kamiya uses many illustrations and comprehensive terms to explain the role of amino acids in a daily diet, how they can help maintain health and increase vitality, while also showing how regular consumption of amino acids enables the body to cope with the stresses of a modern lifestyle.
Dr Kamiya, after having received Ph.D in agricultural chemistry from the University of Tokyo, worked on pharmaceutical research for ten years at Kyowa Hakko with an experience of studying the mechanisms of diabetic complications at the National Eye Institute, NIH, from 1994 to 1996.
Since 1997, Dr Kamiya has been the head of the Nutraceuticals Research Group in the same company and devoted himself to the health care research to clarify how amino acids and other nutritional molecules relate to aging, diseases, skin disorders, obesity, and other health issues.
