The cytology department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has chosen new ergonomically designed microscopes from Leica Microsystems to replace old instruments
Sue Blundell, head of the cytology department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, explained "Our previous microscopes were more than ten years old, but the level of expertise required for cervical screening warrants the use of improved technology." "Phil Grocott, from Leica, was very helpful, both throughout the evaluation period and after purchasing the equipment.
We decided to go to Leica for several reasons.
With the old microscopes, people had to fit themselves to the microscope, using books to raise the height or wedges to tilt.
The Leica DM LS microscope has excellent ergonomic features, allowing complete movement of the column and eye piece, so the microscope can be adjusted to fit the person.
It has been designed with the user's comfort in mind but still has the optical quality we have come to expect from Leica."
