Researchers with an interest in microscopy heard about the latest developments in technology when Leica Microsystems and Nature co-hosted seminars on the subject
Throughout each day, there were presentations given by Leica experts and researchers who routinely use Leica microscopy systems in their work on such diverse topics as synapse imaging, retinal development and plant growth.
A particularly topical presentation was given at both events by Paul Monaghan from the Institute of Animal Research about his research into the foot and mouth disease (FMD) and African swine fever (ASF) viruses.
The impact of FMD in the UK needed no explanation but the audience heard how ASF could also become a problem due to global warming. Leica representatives were on hand throughout the day running workshops alongside the seminars and demonstrating systems to participants, who were encouraged to bring along their own samples.
Competitions were held at each event for the most technically impressive images for confocal and research microscopy respectively, and each winner was presented with a Leica camera and a year's subscription to Nature.
