Microscopes and digital imaging systems used for research projects and blood testing services at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency
The Department of Virology at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency uses a number of Leica microscopes and digital imaging systems, including the Leica DM LB with fluorescence and the DC300F cooled digital camera, for its research projects and blood testing services for the Pet Travel Scheme in the UK.
Christopher Finnegan, research scientist in the Rabies Group, said: "We have found our Leica microscopes very easy to use for routine applications, including virus neutralisation tests on sera collected from animals that have been vaccinated against rabies." "We also have a Leica MZ6 stereomicroscope with a video camera system inside a category III safety cabinet and connected to an external monitor.
My research involves the study of viral replication in different cell culture models.
This system allows me to work remotely using the monitor." "Capturing images with the DC300F has been a great asset for my research thesis, and for collating images for storage, publication and for poster presentations at international conferences."
