The 774 KF oven autosampler from Metrohm is said to be the first fully automated KF oven instrument, allowing 32 samples to be analysed in one run at the touch of a button
The 774 KF oven autosampler uses a simple but extremely ingenious principle of monitoring H20.
Samples are placed in a standard HPLC headspace vial on the 774 carousal, and are then transported to a small yet efficient oven built into the base of the 774.
A needle forces the vial into the oven, dry nitrogen gas is the passed over the sample as it is heated up, the liberated H20 vapours are then purged through to a standard Metrohm Coulometric titrator.
Results integrity may be checked by simply placing a traceable standard on at various positions on the carousal. Because only H20 vapours go into the coulometric cell, this system offers better accuracy and significant reagent cost savings over conventional KF techniques.
The whole system is PC controlled enabling full archiving and audit trails of results. The 774 lends itself to any type of sample from powders and tablets to oils, foodstuffs, chemicals, etc.
