New electrode for potentiometric titration of ionic surfactants yields curves that facilitate end point detection and a working life of at least one year
Surfactants are crucial constituents in cosmetics, detergents, cleaners and pharmaceuticals.
Whether in formulation or starting materials, the surfactant content must be determined quickly, precisely and accurately.
For this Metrohm has developed the new High Sense electrode for potentiometric titration of ionic surfactants.
This yields curves that facilitate end point detection and the corresponding methods are easy to automate.
The High Sense electrode has a PVC-membrane which has a working life of at least one year or 10,000 titrations in aqueous media. Organic solvents such as acetone, tetrahydrofuran and chloroform will damage the electrode membrane.
In practice the High Sense electrode is used in conjunction with a silver/silver chloride double junction reference electrode filled with 3mols/l potassium chloride.
