Xcellsyz Ltd, the London-based biotechnology company, has engaged NCE Discovery as consultants on a number of medicinal chemistry projects.
Dr Peter Shepherd, Chief Scientific Officer of Xcellsyz, explained: "Consulting services are very useful to small biotech companies as they don't usually have the resources to perform in-house chemistry.
We've been working with NCE Discovery for about a year and the service has been very good.
The quality of its personnel is one of its main strengths." Xcellsyz has developed a novel method of immortalising human cells so that they retain the characteristics of a normal cell.
Using these cells to screen for new drug targets will allow compounds that are effective in human tissue to be quickly identified, speeding up drug discovery and reducing development costs.
Xcellsyz is currently working to produce the first realistic model of human muscle and has already been approached by larger pharmaceutical companies interested in the potential of the technology.
Commenting on behalf of NCE Discovery, Chris Sharman, CEO, said: "We aim to provide cost-effective advice that helps companies find the best way of increasing the commercial value of their biological research. It's been a pleasure to work with an entrepreneurial company like Xcellsyz, who add a chemistry dimension to world class biology."
