Investment in a Philips Ultrasound HDI 5000 Sono CT has delivered tangible benefits for patients at the New Forest Primary Healthcare Trust.
"We are absolutely delighted with the superior imaging provided by the HDI 5000 Sono CT across the entire range of examinations that we undertake.
This is particularly so in small parts imaging," said Simon Bendell, senior radiographer and ultrasonographer.
"There is so much diagnostic detail using this system that we're seeing things that we couldn't see before." "The equipment is used for most applications, including vascular, abdominal and gynaecological.
With the SonoCT, the image definition and resolution is so good it is helping us to identify diseases earlier and to be more confident in our diagnosis.
This is reducing the need for patient referrals to larger hospitals for further imaging and evaluation by other modalities.
It has also enabled us to offer new services, such as musculoskeletal imaging.
Our previous machine just couldn't provide the quality of image that we required, but this is a key area we can now develop," explained Simon.
Selection of the HDI 5000 SonoCT was also based on its reputation for reliability: "When you only have one machine, this is a major factor," he stresses.
"Its purchase is in part thanks to the League of Friends, who jointly funded with us, both the building of a new x-ray room and the ultrasound system as a Millennium project."
