New microscope will allow laboratory researchers and scientists to perform real-time, multidimensional confocal imaging of living and fixed samples
PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences has announced the launch of Ultraview RS, the first real-time six-dimensional confocal microscope.
Laboratory scientists and researchers can now perform multidimensional confocal imaging of living and fixed samples in fraction of the time required by classical laser scanning confocal systems with the added benefit of preserving cell viability and fluorescence.
The Ultraview RS uses the newly developed CSU21 dual-Nipkow confocal scanner, an advanced system that allows fast and accurate confocal scanning.
In addition, hardware synchronisation technology proprietary to PerkinElmer permits optimised control of the scanning, detector acquisition, wavelength and Z-position for high acquisition rates while preserving image quality.
Improved signal-to-noise ratio of the CSU21 allows high-speed acquisition in low light conditions. "The launch of Ultraview RS represents a new era in live cell imaging, with imaging and acquisition speed never seen before," said Paul Gillyon, vice president and general manager of the biopharmaceutical business of PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences.
"Ultraview is filling a burgeoning market niche in functional proteomics, and is a welcomed addition to our growing Proteomics portfolio." PerkinElmer began shipment of the Ultraview RS this month (June 2003).
