PerkinElmer will provide its Labworks Enhanced Security (ES) Lims software for managing critical laboratory data for the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Valued at about US$1.2 million, covering both system implementation and maintenance services, the contract deploys the software to more than ten sites operated by the Hong Kong Water Supplies Department (WSD).
Water quality in a major metropolitan area such as Hong Kong requires a very large monitoring infrastructure that measures hundreds of samples daily.
As a laboratory information management system, or Lims, the PerkinElmer Labworks ES Lims software will improve laboratory efficiency and productivity while ensuring data integrity by scheduling sample test requests, collecting information from the various analytical instruments in the labs and controlling the flow of data so that activity in the lab is carefully documented and the information obtained properly recorded and disseminated to authorised users for decision making.
The Labworks ES Lims software to be installed in Hong Kong is an Enhanced Security (ES) version that gives users the ability to develop more efficient processes and meet regulatory requirements that rigorously identify users, login and track samples, and audit workflow.
In addition, Labworks ES Lims makes it easy to gather information about groups of samples to reveal trends or flag results outside specifications for quality and that require rapid response to assure water purity. "Labworks software will help Hong Kong's WSD facilitate accurate data capture and analysis, promote effective scheduling and management of water quality testing, and assist in timely dissemination of information to the public", said Robert Hudson, global director, informatics sales and service, at PerkinElmer.
"The scope of this multi-year contract underscores the central role that PerkinElmer products play in so many ways in improving human health around the world".
To address the broad needs of the Hong Kong WSD, PerkinElmer has teamed with CDM, a full-service global consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm and leader in planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, training and related expert advisory services for water and wastewater facilities demonstrated by successful delivery of the WSD's Ngau Tam Mei, Siu Ho Wan, and Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works.
In addition to providing engineering consultancy services, CDM has extensive experience helping clients identify and develop cost-effective and efficient management information systems (Mis) including computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS), geographical information systems (GIS), supervisory control and data acquisition systems (Scada), and laboratory information management systems (Lims).
In this engagement, CDM will provide local IT and water chemistry expertise in support of PerkinElmer's WSD LIMS implementation.
