Lims can exploit the latest web technology to give the exploration geologist unprecedented freedom and operational efficiency in the field
From field exploration to final processing, the minerals and mining industry generates and needs to manage large volumes of data.
With numerous clients in many sectors of the industry, QSI has developed a range of software tools to match its specific needs.
These enhance the core functionality of its Winlims software to provide the industry with a comprehensive data management solution without the need for extensive custom code. Winlims can exploit the latest web technology to give the exploration geologist unprecedented freedom and operational efficiency in the field.
Bore hole sample details, complete with all necessary geographical and physical co-ordinates, can be remotely logged in to the Lims database using a laptop linked to the internet via a GPRS, 3G or satellite phone.
The geologist in the field can access laboratory results via the same route. Information exchange is faster, interactive and less prone to error.
Once all the results are available, it is common practise to express the geological profile of the exploration site graphically.
Manual data entry into a suitable Cad package can be extremely tedious, so QSI has created Winlims export tools to interface directly with Cad packages such as Autocad and Gemcom. Sieve set analysis is common procedure in the minerals industry, and Winlims comes with the ability to define the sieve sets used in the laboratory, interface directly to the balance to simplify the weighing process and perform all the necessary calculations and reporting.
The Winlims blending control module provides complete recipe or formulation management, including the control of sampling protocols to monitor the blending process.
The ability to optimise blends to achieve the desired product performance or specification can dramatically reduce raw material waste and improve process efficiency.
