Scimcon says it has the answer to growing confusion over who owns data and who needs access to it. It is offering Information Systems consultancy in addition to its LIMS Consultancy
In leading regulated industries, such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverages, or petrochemical, confusion is growing over who owns data and who needs access to it.
A structured approach to laboratory informatics is essential, and removes any ambiguity about how the organisation sources information from the wealth of data that typically exists. Scimcon, the Cambridge-based scientific information management consultancy, has been increasingly working with large multinational organisations to help structure their Information Systems (IS).
Scimcon is therefore now offering an IS Strategy consultancy to the scientific industry, in addition to its existing services in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Consultancy) and validation consultancy.
The requirement for an IS Strategy is an issue that is becoming increasingly apparent as organisations invest in IT.
IS strategies should encompass not just Information Technology (IT) but also the manual and electronic systems and consider the underlying information management infrastructure.
One of Scimcon's roles in working with manufacturers, research, pharmaceutical and process organisations is to recognise the 'bigger picture' and help their customers identify systems that will complement each other.
Trevor De Silva, general manager of Scimcon, explains "I often have to remind clients that this is not an academic setting, but a highly competitive commercial environment where data and the ensuing information is often the most valuable commodity.
The work we are currently undertaking with Bayer and AstraZeneca confirms that global companies are increasingly becoming aware of this deficit in their Information Systems strategy." Scimcon is available to work with organisations worldwide to ensure that IT project managers are working with the greater needs of the organisation and its data and knowledge management in mind.
