Data logging specialist Signatrol has been awarded a Certificate of Hygienic Quality and Merit for its SL150 series of portable temperature data logging tags from the Royal Institute of Public Health.
The RIPH is an independent organisation promoting public health and hygiene through education, training, information and quality testing.
It plays an active role in developing public health strategy through work with government departments and other key public health bodies.
Before awarding the certificate, RIPH personnel subjected the SL150 to rigorous field and laboratory testing in order to validate operational and sealing integrity.
The SL150 logging tags represent a major advance in the remote temperature logging of temperature sensitive goods during processing, transportation and storage, says Signatrol. Both the low cost model SL150T and the top of the range SL151T use a patented wireless induction technique for set up and data download, which means that the units have no plugs, sockets or entries of any kind that could harbour bacteria.
The SL150 is designed to travel directly with food consignments and provides a detailed time and date temperature profile over a measurement range from -300C to +700C.
These data can then be used to highlight any problems which may have occurred throughout a specific journey or process.
The data loggers are housed in fully IP68 sealed, crevice free, robust food grade plastic tags only 10mm thick and powered by long-life internal batteries.
The 150T can be selected to log at intervals from one minute up to 255 minutes and with the ability to store around 2000 readings, the unit gives a maximum storage time of 11 months.
The 151T provides the ultimate in features and can be set to record at intervals from 30 seconds to 100 hours.
With an internal capacity of 16,000 readings, the unit can keep recording for more than four years. The delayed start feature means that the logger can be set to coincide with a particular travel schedule.
Free user-friendly Windows software provides a simple set up procedure and the units can be programmed with the manifest details such as vehicle number, driver, destination, ship name, consignment number and container number.
A convenient through hole allows the tags to be security-sealed to the consignment.
Stored data are easily downloaded via the base unit to a PC or laptop and can be displayed graphically or saved in a standard spread sheet format. Two LEDs indicate the status of the unit during and after logging.
A red light indicates that the unit has seen temperature excursions outside the preset limits for a preset time interval while the green light indicates that no problems have been encountered.
Data are stored in such a way that they cannot subsequently be altered to disguise what actually happened.
In addition to the standard software package, the SL150 is also available with a special high security Tempit version.
When used with appropriate operating procedures, this system provides records, audit trails and supports electronic signatures in accordance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.
