A new, 24 input CPU has been announced by Siemens Automation and Drives for their Simatic S7-200 range of micro PLCs.
Additional new software has also been released, which is designed to simplify the configuring and programming of S7-200 systems. Features of the new CPU 226 include 24 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, expandable to a maximum of 148 inputs/outputs via expansion modules; an 8-Kilobyte program and 5-Kilobyte data memories; 256 bit memories, 256 counters and 256 timers; six fast 30-kilohertz counters and an integral real-time clock.
In addition, the CPU 226 has two interfaces, as opposed to one, which further enhances the communications capability of the S7-200 device family.
With the family of powerful 22x CPUs, all featuring a fast 0.37 microseconds per bit instruction, users can solve their automation tasks individually and corresponding exactly to their requirements.
Four matching devices are available: the CPU 221 with 6 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs, the CPU 222 with 8 digital inputs and 6 digital outputs, the CPU 224 with 14 digital inputs and 10 digital outputs; and the most powerful S7-200 micro system, the new CPU 226.
All the units are suitable for operation on vibrating machines and offer a high degree of EMC.
The new Step7 Micro/WIN version 3.1 software allows users to create programs and configurations in their preferred form of representation; ladder diagram, statement list or function block diagram.
Two or more projects can be edited in parallel.
Programming is considerably simplified by drag-and-drop functions using keyboard and mouse with cut, copy and paste tools.
Additional simplifications include new, convenient search and replace functions, print preview and extended printing functions, symbol information table with absolute addresses, symbols and symbol remarks, as well as the symbolic and absolute addresses displayed for each element during working and status monitoring.
