A new range of versatile, robust and easy-to-use vacuum and heated gel dryers are suitable for most bioscience gel drying applications
A new range of versatile, robust and easy-to-use vacuum and heated gel dryers, which are suitable for most bioscience gel drying applications, have been introduced by Scie Plas.
These dryers are designed to provide a very even distribution of heat, thanks to a 800 watt heating membrane and cast aluminium base, which also contributes to their sturdy construction.
Two sizes are available; 45x34cm and 50x40cm, allowing for single gel drying up to 45x34cm or 50x40cm respectively, or drying of multiple small format gels.
The units have two timers, one for temperature and one for the vacuum pump.
The drying temperature can be set between ambient and 90C and regulated to +/-2C, while the drying time can be set up to 5 hours in one minute steps.
To compliment the gel dryers, Scie Plas offer the GelMaster vacuum pump.
The GelMaster vacuum system features two pumps in one package, firstly a room temperature vapour trap acts as a pump by condensing the hot vapours from the gel dryer and trapping them from the rest of the system.
This is followed by a high efficiency diaphragm pump, which delivers a powerful, non-fluctuating vacuum for fast, smooth drying, which acts as the primary vacuum source.
Such is the efficiency of these pumps that one GelMaster pump can be connected to three separate gel dryers simultaneously.
Like the gel dryers, GelMaster pumps can be timed to automatically switch off, any time up to 5 hours in one minute steps.
The gel dryers are easy to set up and maintain, operation is simply a case of connecting the vacuum line to the gel unit and powering up.
A 1.5 litre capacity built- in vapour trap means that no cumbersome and time consuming external traps need to be connected.
As the gel is drying, the vapour trap condenses the vapour and removes liquid from the system.
This allows between ten and 15 gels to be dried before the trap needs to be drained, facilitated by opening the stopcock and draining off the liquid when the level reaches the red indicator zone.
Also, the Gelmaster trapping medium can be used repeatedly as it does not mix with the condensate.
