A complete solution for vertical gel, electroblotting and 2D electrophoresis applications is the latest addition to the Scie-Plas range of laboratory equipment
Building on the success of the new TV100 mini and TV400 maxi vertical slab gel units, Scie-Plas has added electroblotting and 2D modules, which utilise the same external casing, lid and electrodes.
The compact, innovative design of these units means that techniques previously requiring the use of multiple instruments can now be performed in the same unit, saving time and cost.
Also, by utilising the same tank the key requirements of many scientific applications of consistency and reproducibility, are fully optimized.
Both mini (TV100YK-Modsys) and maxi (TV400YK-Modsys) units include the following features and components: main tank, lid and electrodes, slab gel running module with complete accessories for casting and running slab gels, including casting system, combs, spacers and glass plates. Also included are electroblotting module with compression cassettes and fibre pads, 2D tube gel module with tube gels, blanking ports, gel extraction platform and 2D combs and spacers. These gel systems have been designed to solve most, if not all of the problems currently faced by researchers using protein gel electrophoresis.
Resolution of the gel is enhanced by a combination of a superior buffer cooling system along with complete separation of the upper and lower buffer chambers through a special counterbalanced gasket arrangement.
Set up times for both precast and hand cast gels is significantly reduced because the new designs contain less screws per side clamp.
No transfer of glass plates during or after casting is necessary and bonded spacer glass plates are included as standard.
The TV electroblotting and 2D modules contain other important features.
For example, the blotting compression cassettes have a rigid, yet open design providing a very large surface area for parallel current transfer, while keeping the gel and membrane in a closed clamped configeration, maximising transfer efficiency.
The TV 2D modules incorporate a new gasket, which facilitates easy tube insertion with a leak proof seal.
Ten 1cm thick tubes are included as standard to provide rigidity and allow the tubes to be re-used.
Speed of run can be increased without compromising focusing resolution by utilising the superior cooling of the TV systems.
Typical applications for these multi-purpose units include protein and nucleic acid separations, SDS-Page, preparative, peptide or gradient pore separations, western electroblotting, isoelectric focusing and complete 2D electrophoresis.
The TV100-Modsys is compatible with the majority of commercially available precast gels measuring up to 10x10cm.
Both units are CE compliant and manufactured to standards recognised and awarded ISO9001:2000 certification.
