Thermo LabSystems announces that GlaxoSmithKline has selected its Nautilus LIMS for use in its laboratories at Harlow and Stevenage, UK, and at North Carolina, USA
Nautilus will be used by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) specifically to handle global DNA sample tracking and genotyping for the discovery of human therapeutics in GSK's research areas.
The software is being deployed to support GSK scientists and bioinformaticians in managing more efficiently the vast amount, diversity and complexity of genetic data generated by its automated high-throughput technologies.
The agreement covers software user licenses for Nautilus and services for the system's implementation, including consultancy, configuration, instrument integration and training.
These services are being provided by Thermo LabSystems' Pathfinder global services group.
The system is first scheduled to be fully operational in the area of sample management in February 2002. This will enable GSK to track more easily the progress of research projects, including the management of individual genetic samples from introduction in the laboratory through to the successful completion of the analyses and reporting of results. GSK's Genetics Research required a powerful data management system that can efficiently process very high volumes of complex data.
"During the evaluations, Thermo LabSystems demonstrated the ability of Nautilus to satisfy this requirement", said Joe Peden, Thermo LabSystems business development director.
"Plus the Nautilus system has the added advantage of easily integrating into GSK's existing laboratory instrumentation." GSK plans to use Nautilus to enhance its laboratory information management systems capabilities and improve operational and quality assurance efficiencies by automating a number of its laboratory processes.
