First installation of automated chlorine dioxide production system is for the delivery of a constant supply of bacteria-free rinse water for a hospital's endoscope washer-disinfectors
Tristel has completed the first installation of its Tristel Generator, a fully automated chlorine dioxide production system that enables the company's chemistry to be used in applications requiring a continuous stream of chlorine dioxide. This first installation is at a private sector hospital in Lincolnshire, UK, where the Generator is being used for the delivery of a constant supply of bacteria-free rinse water for the hospital's endoscope washer-disinfectors.
Microbial contamination of rinse water is a problem that is widely encountered with washer-disinfectors.
The Tristel Generator doses water supplies with its patented chlorine dioxide chemistry at concentrations that are pre-set within a range of 1 to 250ppm. Chlorine dioxide production is instantaneous and continuous.
An on-board probe monitors and records the chlorine dioxide concentration, and the system is equipped with a printer to provide a record of the volume of water dosed.
The Tristel Generator is compact and can be wall mounted or located on the floor under a worktop.
Not only can the Tristel Generator produce chlorine dioxide at the low concentrations required for water disinfection, it is equally capable of generating the high concentrations necessary to disinfect medical equipment.
As a result, a number of collaborative developments with manufacturers of endoscope washer-disinfectors are in progress.
Here the Generator feeds the washer with the high-level disinfectant solution used to decontaminate the endoscope itself.
The design and development of the Tristel Generator was completed in the autumn of 2004 and was supported with a UK Department for Trade and Industry grant for research and development.
The Generator has been tested extensively to prove its efficacy in eliminating and controlling biofilms.
Other applications include the disinfection of dental unit water lines, food processing, water sanitation and Legionella control.
Tristel is seeking distributors for overseas markets and sectors outside of its traditional hospital marketplace.
