The meat industry and its products have to comply with very strict hygiene regulations.
Veterinary research is therefore highly important.
When researching certain germs and bacteria in pigs' manure, the prepared carriers of the bacteria are infected by the samples.
The samples are cultivated on a foodstuff, which is injected into the carrier (usually Agar) and allowed to multiply.
The samples are then studied under the microscope and the results of the cultivation further analysed. The Verderlab peristaltic dosing pump is used in such applications, first to dose the Agar into petri dishes and then to dose the prepared sample onto the Agar.

Agar is a difficult product to dose because it is very viscous and its temperature can reach up to 80C.
