Viscotek announces the acquisition of a worldwide exclusive licence to single mode fibre (SMF) technology for Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)
A UK Ministry of Defence patent covers the novel technology, formerly used by Protein Solutions in its range of successful DynaPro DLS instruments.
Commenting on the acquisition, Max Haney, President of Viscotek remarked "The addition of the new DLS instrument will perfectly enhance and complement our existing triple detection GPC/SEC products which are used extensively in the protein characterisation field.
"The new manufacturing facility will also expand our successful European operations and strengthen our global position in polymer and biopolymer characterisation".
Viscotek says itwill integrate the new technology into its portfolio by setting up a new UK manufacturing facility staffed by ex-employees from Protein Solutions including Tim Smithson, production manager and Ken Cunningham, product design engineer.
Under the direction of Paul Clarke, Viscotek's European managing director, the DLS team has moved swiftly to take advantage of the new arrangement with the design of a new-generation instrument already completed. Clarke commented: "'The patented single mode fibre technology will give us a significant advantage over the competitors in this field, as they are physically unable to achieve the same sensitivity without it".
Viscotek will also be offering support and repair services to the existing customers who have old Protein Solutions instruments.
Exclusive access to the patented SMF technology means Viscotek is the only company who will be able to supply all the parts to repair these instruments.
