Electroblotters can accommodate up to four cassettes, to provide the facility for multiple blots to be run simultaneously, and are available in two sizes for gels up to 20cm square
A range of electroblotters which accommodate up to four cassettes, to provide the facility for multiple blots to be run simultaneously, are among the features of new TVB Electroblotting units introduced by electrophoresis specialists Scie-Plas.
The range has two models, the TVB 100 (for gels up to 10x10cm) and the TVB 400 (for gels up to 20x20cm).
Both units have an enhanced cooling system that helps to ensure superb resolution and ease-of-use when transferring proteins and nucleic acids from a gel matrix onto a suitable membrane, says Scie-Plas.
These units benefit from a robust acrylic construction, a hinged safety lid with integral power leads, shrouded power connectors and long-life 99.99% pure replaceable platinum electrodes.
Gold plated terminals with stainless steel washers help to resist the effects of corrosion.
The hinged lid has built-in electrodes with back stop, while the internal cooling coil provides direct contact with the buffer.
This enables optimum cooling because the design is such that a maximum surface area is exposed to the buffer.
Also, the cooling coil has simple snap-lock valved connectors to enable removal of the cooling pipes, without the loss or spillage of coolant when not in use.
When used in conjunction with a re-circulating chiller a constant temperature can be maintained throughout the transfer to standardise and provide reproducible running conditions.
The new one piece cassettes have been designed for ease of operation by a hinge and integral locking mechanism to ensure that once sealed, the cassette cannot spring open accidentally.
A diagonal chevron pattern is used in the cassette sides to allow for uniform electrical conductivity through the sample while also keeping the gel/membrane sandwich uniformly compressed to ensure an even and undistorted sample transfer from the gel onto the membrane.
A buffer drainage connector allows the buffer solution to be emptied from the tank again via a valved snap-lock connector.
This eliminates the need to invert the system to empty out the buffer after use and importantly, this connection is reversed from that of the cooling coil and so eliminates accidental re-circulating chiller to the actual buffer chamber.
