Mountain States Consulting, developer of MSC-Lims, is marking the tenth anniversary of its successful laboratory information management system (Lims) software.
Defying the boom-and-bust trend of software company startups and disappointments, Mountain States Consulting says it has achieved continual success and steady growth.
The 1995 success of MSC-Lims confirmed the need of small to mid-sized labs for affordable laboratory data management software.
In the subsequent decade, MSC-Lims has been instrumental in improving lab operations - in water and wastewater, commercial environmental, petrochemical, and food testing labs - by providing reliable and technically advanced software, says the company.
The ten-year milestone reflects the company's ongoing commitment to delivering innovative software solutions.
"We owe our success and longevity to the continuous improvement of our product and our dedication to customer service," states MSC founder Rick Collard.
"We are very proud of our growth and the fact that MSC-Lims is now operating in labs around the world.
"Ten years ago we were asked to design a custom laboratory information management system for a small municipal water/wastewater lab in Wyoming," Collard recalls.
"They needed to automate, but they had a Lims budget of only $10,000".
Following extensive design and development, MSC installed the first MSC-Lims on the lab's existing 486 PC, in April of 1995.
It quickly became a vital tool in the daily operations of the laboratory.
Following this initial success, MSC enhanced and improved the product, and then made it available to other labs.
Continuous upgrades have included new installation software that prevents conflicts with Microsoft Office installations, simplified site-specific customisation upgrades, and a low-cost annual subscription version.
MSC says it continues to set the pace for user-friendly software.
Contemplating the next decade, Collard confirms: "We will continue to provide high quality software and exemplary customer service to lab professionals in the rapidly evolving laboratory profession."
