Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has appointed Steve Buxton as its new UK branch manager
Steve Buxton joined UL International (UK) in 1999 as its medical devices group leader and has been instrumental in building, expanding and improving UL's portfolio of product safety certification and quality registration services for the medical sector.
Hamid Syed, UL's regional director for the UK, Nordic countries, Middle East and Africa said: "I am confident that Steve will embrace his new role with the energy and commitment that he demonstrated when he was asked to build our medical regulatory business out of the UL UK office.
"Not only did he make it profitable but he also lead and managed UL's successful application in becoming one of the first organisations to obtain notified body status under Vitro Diagnostic Device Directive 98/79/EC".
Buxton's biochemistry background led him to work with companies such as Gist-Brocades and Mercia Diagnostics where he built up a wide range of capabilities.
He has a strong R and D, manufacturing, quality system and commercial development background, says UL.
More recently Buxton has been involved in developing UL's new enhanced quality management system assessment techniques.
These enhanced assessment techniques will help meet the quality industry's need for more value-added assessment services from certification bodies.
This major initiative in a $800m marketplace will clearly differentiate UL from the competition, the company says.
Buxton is married with two children and enjoys spending his spare time on the golf course.
