New derived cetane number equation has been approved, providing direct equivalence between the IQT and ASTM D613
In Europe the new pr EN 15195:2005 (E) test method has been balloted to member states, with comments due by the end of August.
This method is intended to be incorporated into the European diesel fuel specification EN590.
In the USA it has been agreed to ballot ASTM D6890 for incorporation into the diesel fuel specification ASTM D975.
Based on the 2004 inter-laboratory programme undertaken by the ASTM/Energy Institute, a new derived cetane number equation has been approved, providing direct equivalence between the IQT and ASTM D613.
Ultimately this new equation will be aligned across ASTM D6890, IP 498, and the final version of pr EN 15195:2005 (E), which are equivalent methods.
To support the standardisation process, the Energy Institute and Stazione Sperimentale Combustibili will be hosting a workshop and technical meeting on the measurement of cetane number by DCN methods on 8 September 2005 in Milan.
