Company develops, manufactures and markets immunoassay (Elisa) kits, luminescent reagents, antibodies, proteins, DNA products, and extracts that are used for life sciences research
Assay Designs, a supplier of immunoassay kits and reagents to the life sciences research market, has appointed Gustavo Salem as president and CEO.
Prior to joining Assay Designs, Salem held a variety of positions at Bio-Rad Laboratories in Hercules, California, including division manager of protein separations and business unit manager for biomaterials.
Earlier, he held a series of sales and marketing positions at PerSeptive Biosystems, Beckman Instruments and Amersham.
"I am thrilled about the opportunity to lead Assay Designs as it enters a new growth phase," noted Salem.
"The company has high quality product lines and established brand names that are well regarded in the research community.
"This includes the heat shock protein (HSP) and cell signaling business recently acquired from Stressgen Biotechnology.
"Above all, the company has strong development capabilities and very talented people.
"We will seek to leverage these strengths to become a major supplier in the research reagents market".
David Parker, chairman of Assay Designs and a general partner at Ampersand Ventures, commented: "Gus has demonstrated a record of success in the research reagents industry, which makes him a perfect fit for Assay Designs.
"His energy and leadership will be critical toward integrating the recent acquisition of Stressgen Bioreagents and, over time, building a preeminent, life sciences tools company".
Russell Hart and Barbara Scheuer, co-founders of Assay Designs, will continue to serve in full time roles at the company.
Hart, who previously held the title of president, has been named chief scientific officer.
Scheuer holds the position of vice president, product development.
"Gus brings extensive industry experience in growing companies, as well as a level of professional management, to his new leadership role at the company," states Hart.
"I am looking forward to focusing my attention on Assay Designs's research and development activities as the company expands its product portfolio with new platforms".
Based in Ann Arbor, USA, and with operations in Victoria, Canada, Assay Designs develops, manufactures and markets immunoassay (Elisa) kits, luminescent reagents, antibodies, proteins, DNA products, and extracts that are used for life sciences research.
The company markets these products under the Assay Designs and Stressgen brand names.
Researchers use the company's products to detect and quantify molecules that are important in cell regulation, signal transduction, oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis.
