Cortisol fluorescence polarisation immunoassay (FPIA) assay precisely measures Cortisol concentration within cell supernatants in a minimum of 30 minutes
Assay Designs introduces a Cortisol fluorescence polarisation immunoassay (FPIA) kit, the second addition to its FPIA product line.
This kit uses a homogeneous FPIA format, which eliminates the wash steps required by traditional immunoassays.
"Our customers greatly appreciate the quality and reproducibility of Assay Designs's Cortisol Elisa kits," notes Karen Collins, a product manager at Assay Designs.
"The introduction of the Cortisol FPIA kit offers the same high quality to researchers who require a format more suitable for automation instrumentation." Cortisol (hydrocortisone, compound F) is a steroid hormone synthesised from cholesterol, and is the primary glucocorticoid produced and secreted by the adrenal cortex.
Cortisol is found in the blood as either free cortisol, or more commonly, bound to corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG).
Cortisol is involved primarily in metabolic and immunological actions.
In the metabolic aspect, cortisol promotes gluconeogenesis, liver glycogen deposition, and the reduction of glucose utilisation.
Immunologically, cortisol functions as an important anti-inflammatory and plays a role in hypersensitivity, immunosuppression and disease resistance.
Factors such as age, various diseases, nutrition, stress and other hormone levels affect cortisol secretion.
Abnormal cortisol levels are being tested for correlation with a variety of different conditions, including prostate cancer, depression and schizophrenia, while it is already known that an excess of cortisol in all bodily tissues is the cause of Cushing's syndrome.
The Cortisol FPIA assay precisely measures Cortisol concentration within cell supernatants in a minimum of 30 minutes.
The assay range is 781-800,000pg/ml and the Z-factor is 0.823.
Each kit includes bulk packaged reagents for up to 100 assays of 100ul volume.
The bulk packaged format allows users to vary the volume of reagents as needed.
Assay Designs manufactures and markets immunoassay and detection kits (Elisa kits).
It says its high quality assay kits are fast, sensitive and reliable.
The company also carries a selection of luminescent products, antibodies and proteins for research needs.
