ChemSketch and Name introduce full compatibility with the InChI chemical nomenclature protocol, making it possible to produce unique alphanumeric string representations for chemical compounds
Advanced Chemistry Development (ACD/Labs) announces that with the release of version 9.0 of the chemical structure drawing program, ChemSketch, and the expert nomenclature tool, Name, it has now introduced full compatibility with the InChI chemical nomenclature protocol, making it possible to produce unique alphanumeric string representations for chemical compounds that will facilitate the communication of molecular structures electronically.
ACD/Labs has been committed to the InChI identifier since its inception and provided the first integration between a commercial drawing package and the InChI software components almost two years ago.
Freeware version 8 of ChemSketch, which has recently marked its half million web downloads, also features InChI compatibility.
ACD/Labs's commercial products also offer the unique 'reverse' InChI-to-structure conversion that enables convenient decoding of InChI strings.
"On behalf of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry we welcome the cooperation of Advanced Chemistry Development in incorporating version 1 of the International Chemical Identifier (InChI) into its ACD/ChemSketch product, and we look forward to the widespread take-up of InChI by other software vendors", said Alan McNaught.
Antony Williams, VP and chief science officer for ACD/Labs, adds: "ACD/Labs has supported InChI since the very first meeting when Iupac unveiled the potential advantages of such an initiative.
"We are happy to support this effort since not only will it provide a valuable public service to chemists around the world, this technology will also offer us a business advantage for integrating to other chemistry software vendor systems supporting InChI".
