Oxoid has responded to growing trends towards the use of prepared media products by expanding its UK-based prepared media production operation
Oxoid Prepared Media was recently described to be 'as good as it gets in relation to ready-prepared media' by head biomedical scientist in the microbiology department of York Hospitals NHS Trust, Mara Ajder, following a visit to Oxoid's new Prepared Media Facility in Perth, Scotland.
Oxoid has responded to growing trends towards the use of prepared media products by expanding its UK-based prepared media production operation.
The new, purpose-built facility has more than doubled its prepared media production capacity in the UK and is well equipped to meet future demands.
"I was very impressed with the whole set-up," Ajder commented.
"It is reassuring to see how much Oxoid has invested in its prepared media service.
"I was particularly impressed with the technical aspects of the clean air system.
"It is also reassuring to see that they are not resting on their laurels," she continued.
"With an emphasis on customer care and feedback, they are always looking for ways to improve products and to be responsive to needs.
"Technical development and improvement is also on-going.
"For example, while I was there they were investigating further automation for stacking and packing in order to improve this area of the operation".
The microbiology department at York Hospitals NHS Trust has been using Oxoid prepared media products for four years, having previously prepared their own media.
"Space is limited in the laboratory," Ajder concluded.
"Using prepared media has eliminated the need to have space dedicated to media preparation and has freed staff to develop other skills.
"In addition, Oxoid products come with quality control certificates and CE marking, which complement our own protocols."
