YSI analysers are being used to carry out quality assurance tests on honey during the processing stage.
Honey is a mixture of sugars and other compounds, mainly fructose (about 38%) and glucose (about 31.0%).
The specific composition of any batch of honey depends on the flowers available to the bees that produced the honey.
The YSI Analyser is used to measure both sucrose and glucose as a quality assurance procedure on every batch, before the final product is packed.
The glucose level determines whether the honey is suitable for a set or a clear product. For a clear honey, lower glucose levels are required, with higher levels better for a set honey, as it crystallises quicker.
The recent release of the YSI 2900 Series makes larger scale automated sampling easier, with 96 well-plate sampling capability and a touch screen for programming sampling instructions - up to 6 chemistries simultaneously.
Features include anti-clogging mechanisms, flexible connectivity and test results available in one minute or less.
