The Association of Clinical Biochemists celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this week during Focus 2003 at MICC, Manchester on 13 - 15 May
The theme of the Focus 2003 conference and exhibition is clinical diagnostics, an area in which ultrapure water is vital to ensure reproducible results.
Elga LabWater, the laboratory water specialist of Vivendi Water Systems, will be displaying the next generation of the Medica-R water purifiers.
The Medica range is well known to clinical analysts who require NCCLS Type 1 water available at all times, and the new model will be a welcome addition to the range.
The Medica-R is available in three sizes, producing 30, 60, or 100l/h of treated water in full compliance with NCCLS Type 1, ASTM D1193 Type IIIC, ISO 3696 Grade 1, AAMI Water for Haemodialysis, USP 25 Purified Water, and BP/EP Purified Water, with bacteria levels of less than 1cfu/ml.
The Medica-R has a pre-treatment cartridge to remove particulates, organic matter and chlorine and this is followed by primary purification by reverse osmosis using the latest low pressure high rejection membranes.
The reverse osmosis permeate passes through an ultraviolet lamp providing disinfection and photo-oxidation, before final ion exchange polishing, to ensure maximum inorganic purity, and 0.05µm microfiltration.
When there is no demand for purified water, the Medica-R has a built-in recirculation to maintain water quality.
The Medica range features microprocessor-controlled system management with continuous water purity monitoring for consistent and reliable operation and easy-to-read displays which enable the operator to check water quality, water temperature and consumables at a glance.
An RS232 port (Medica 7/15 range) allows direct printing or data collection in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice protocols.
Aesthetics and ergonomics have been combined in the Medica range from the front opening service doors, which allow easy access for replacement of consumables, to the space saving design with multiple positioning options - on a bench, under a bench with remote control option (Medica 7/15) or on a wall - whichever is most convenient.
The addition of a DV25 docking vessel, which stores 25 litres of pure water, converts the Medica 7/15 range into a co-ordinated all in one standalone system, freeing up valuable space on the benchtop.
