Range integrates all the purification equipment into a single stylish cabinet, which incorporates the latest monitoring and control technology to improve the management of the loop system
Elga LabWater launches its new Centra range of integrated central laboratory water purification systems.
Traditionally, laboratory pure water loops have been supplied by a central laboratory purification system consisting of an untidy arrangement of reservoir, a reverse osmosis unit, filters, pumps and tubing.
But that is about to change, says Elga.
Its new Centra range integrates all the purification equipment into a single stylish cabinet, which incorporates the latest monitoring and control technology to improve the management of the loop system. Laboratory architects and building services engineers will be pleased with Centra's compact size, textured scuff- and chemical-resistant finish and ease of installation, while laboratory managers and technicians will welcome its easy operation, security of control and simplicity of sanitisation, says the company.
Centra also boasts GLP features like integral alarms and an RS232 interface.
The Centra range consists of five models, but each can be customised to meet specific requirements for water purity, building architecture and laboratory applications, feeding everything from glassware washers and autoclaves to high purity polishers like the Purelab Ultra.
The basic MDS and LDS models include a storage tank (200 or 350 litres), controls and monitoring together with a recirculation pump to deliver up to 18 litres per minute into the loop at a pressure of 3bar.
An optional composite vent filter for the tank prevents the ingress of airborne gases and bacteria.
The MDS and LDS would be supplied with pre-purified water (eg, RO treated) from a local ring-main or unit.
The RDS model additionally provides bacterial UV exposure and membrane filtration to 0.2um in the loop to maintain microbiological quality to the point of use.
It also provides facilities for connecting one or more cylinders (tanks) for organic removal and/or ion-exchange where polishing in the loop is required.
The S200 and R200 are complete stand-alone units fed with mains (city) water.
They include pre-filtration and reverse osmosis on the make-up to the storage tank together with a consumable change reminder display.
The R200 additionally provides bacterial UV exposure and membrane filtration to 0.2um in the loop to maintain microbiological quality to the point of use.
It also provides facilities for connecting one or more cylinders (tanks) for organic removal and/or ion-exchange where polishing in the loop is required.
The Centra is controlled from an angled four-button softkey control panel which displays operational mode, process flow, water quality and other system information.
The unique Passkey access prevents unauthorised changes to system settings.
The panel also displays alarms for reservoir level, internal system leaks and water quality, and as many as ten remote control and display panels can be connected to the system at distances up to 1km from the Centra.
It can also be easily connected to most building management systems.
Although the Centra is designed to be hygienic, regular sanitisation is recommended to ensure minimum bacteria and endotoxin levels.
The Centra MDS and LDS have simple manual sanitisation while the R200 and S200 feature a manually initiated automatic cycle which is fully recordable for GLP compliance.
Like all Elga LabWater products, the Centra range is backed by full validation documentation and the most comprehensive on-site service organisation in Europe.
The Centra range of laboratory water purifiers won the 2004 prestigious Plastics Industry Awards for industrial product design.
