RTI International has been awarded a contract with the US National Science Foundation to assess graduate student enrollments in science, engineering and health-related fields
As part of the five-year contract, worth just under US$6 million, RTI researchers will redesign and conduct the NSF's annual survey of graduate students and postdoctorates in science and engineering.
"Collecting this information allows the National Science Foundation (NSF), policy makers and researchers to monitor trends and shifts in graduate enrollment and postdoctoral appointments across the United States," said Dan Pratt, RTI's project director for the study.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to work with NSF on such important research." NSF has collected data on graduate science and engineering and health enrollment and postdoctoral appointees since 1966.
Its annual survey is the only one that examines current graduate student enrollments and provides a breakdown of enrollments by field of study and demographic variables such as gender, race and citizenship.
