Rolls-Royce awarded a consolidated long-term agreement to Intertek Caleb Brett for an embedded chemistry and metallurgy laboratory service to the Rolls-Royce Derby and Hucknall sites
These services had previously been provided in-house by Rolls-Royce.
Under the new agreement (Feb 2005), Intertek Caleb Brett will be the sole provider of these site services enabling Rolls-Royce scientists and engineers to focus on core internal business whilst procuring analytical and metallurgical support from a dedicated testing organisation.
Intertek also has the ability to provide global support to Rolls-Royce from its world wide laboratory locations as well as to conduct more advanced investigative metallurgical, corrosion testing and related analytical support with its partner Capcis .
Intertek's ability to provide these services will bring significant benefits to Rolls-Royce not only through local efficiency gains, but also by integration into the wider network available throughout Intertek Caleb Brett and the Intertek Group.
Coordinated management of these services is expected to yield benefits to Rolls-Royce in a number of different ways, including continuity and expansion of service, through sharing best practice with the existing Intertek laboratory and technology centre network.
Intertek's innovative embedded supplier model and its strong track record of success with other major organisations were instrumental factors in our selection process.
Says Mark Loughead (chief executive officer - Intertek Caleb Brett): "We are delighted that Rolls-Royce has chosen Intertek for analytical and metallurgical service provision at Derby and look forward to developing the global support relationship in the years ahead".
"The decision follows similar awards to Intertek from Unilever, Shell, Avecia and BP over the last 2-3 years and is part of the increasing trend of global organisations to enjoy efficiency gains, cost savings and improved service provision by procuring laboratory services from a specialist organisation rather than to bear the cost and effort internally".
"The embedded laboratory in Derby will not only provide a new and prestigious location in the Midlands area of the UK, but it will also extend the scope of services which Caleb Brett can make available to its international customer base".
