Olympus America has set a deadline of 30 September 2006 for this year's Olympus BioScapes digital imaging competition, the third competition to be held
Entries, including still images, image series and movies, must be submitted online by September 30, 2006.
First prize will be Olympus microscope or camera equipment valued at $5000.
Nine additional winners will also receive valuable prizes from Olympus, and honorable mentions will be named.
The Olympus BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition, now in its third year, recognizes the finest images of life science specimens captured through light microscopes, using any magnification and any brand of equipment.
Each person entering can submit up to five movies, images, or image sequences.
Entries must include information on the importance or story behind the images.
Winners will be notified in mid-October, and publicly announced at an event in San Diego in December.
Winning images will also be part of a traveling exhibit that will visit museums and science venues across the country over the next year.
"Last year, we received more than a thousand images and movies.
"The quality of the entries was extraordinary, and the stories behind the images were fascinating," said Stephen Tang, Olympus America group vice president and general manager, life science.
"The images that people have shared with the competition help shed light on the living universe around us, and provide both education and inspiration".
Uploading images to enter the competition is easy, says Olympus America.
