Lipomics Technologies, specialising in the comprehensive and quantitative profiling of lipid metabolites, announced that Meeta Patnaik has joined in the newly created position of chief medical officer
Dr Patnaik comes to Lipomics with twenty years of experience in medicine, immunology, virology, molecular biology and has developed and marketed over 200 clinical assays, including the first commercially available test for Hanta virus.
Patnaik will be responsible for developing Lipomics's rich pipeline of diagnostic products leveraging its proprietary database of lipid metabolites to identify disease states.
Previously, Patnaik was senior VP and chief science and technology officer at Pathway Diagnostics.
There she was responsible for all aspects of the scientific and commercialization of new diagnostic assays and was part of the licensing and IP team.
She also enabled several key alliances with major diagnostic and drug development partners.
"Meeta's broad and deep experience will enable Lipomics to develop and commercialize specific lipid-based diagnostic assays helping to grow our clinical diagnostics program," said Steve Watkins, Lipomics's president and chief scientific officer.
"We are very pleased and most fortunate to have her join us at Lipomics".
"Metabolic disease is pervasive and lipid-based diagnostics will fill severely underserved needs in both drug development and patient treatment," said Meeta Patnaik.
"Lipomics is ideally positioned with unique expertise to drive improved and personalized management of a large range of major disease states".
Patnaik received her MD in 1987 and was a research fellow in immunology at the National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi, India.
She has also held long-term academic positions at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, California State University, Dominguez Hills and the Department of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology, University of California, Los Angeles.
Patnaik is also the author of over 69 published scientific papers and journal articles and has presented papers at a number of professional and academic institutes worldwide.
