Bruker BioSpin delivered and installed the first actively shielded 900MHz magnet, the 900 US 2, for the University of Illinois at Chicago, it announced in December 2004
The 900 US2 combines Bruker BioSpin's proprietary UltraShield and UltraStabilized technologies, delivering the highest field strength actively-shielded magnet available today.
The new instrument is already acquiring data in the University's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, for research on high molecular weight proteins.
"The 900MHz magnetis essential for the high resolution we need, and it ensures optimal performance of our Trosy experiments," commented Professor Peter Gettins of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
"We were impressed with the design of the Bruker BioSpin 900 US 2 magnet.
"The shielding technology, which reduces the footprint, has dramatically increased the capacity of our NMR facility, allowing future expansion with additional instruments".
The 900 US 2 features a compact design that enables it to fit in the same size cryostat as the conventional non-shielded 900MHz magnet.
Bruker BioSpin now offers US 2 magnet models at two field strengths - 800 and 900MHz - in addition to a full line of UltraShield magnets from 300 to 700MHz.
Combined with Bruker BioSpin's Avance NMR spectrometer, they are ideal for structural biology applications.
