Roxspur has supplied Brearley thermocouple sensors and cabling, plus Pt100 Platinum resistance thermometer sensors, for the complete re-instrumentation of a major industrial glass furnace
The project, for the ARC International Cookware factory in Sunderland, involved the refurbishment of the furnace and heat treatment areas at the Wear Glass Works, which manufactures Pyrex branded glass cookware, among other products.
Pyrex is as a special formulation of borosilicate glass, moulded at very high temperatures, and the production process involves accurate temperature monitoring and control to ensure product quality.
Roxspur engineers have specialised in producing Brearley rare metal thermocouple temperature sensors for high temperature applications - and probably supplied the sensors used for the furnaces used to produce the first Pyrex cookware in 1922.
For operation at temperatures up to 1700C, typical Brearley noble metal thermocouples use platinum and alloyed platinum rhodium elements, with alumina, silicon carbide or porcelain sheath materials.
