The new FlowCam® Macro particle imaging and analysis system uses Dynamic Imaging Particle analysis to characterise larger particles in suspensions.
The new FlowCam® Macro particle imaging and analysis system has been developed to complement instruments that use techniques like dynamic imaging, laser diffraction and microscopy to provide data on particles of subvisible size. The FlowCam® Macro, designed and manufactured by Fluid Imaging Technologies and supplied in the UK by Meritics, is optimised for particles in the range 250μm – 5mm.
This makes it the perfect tool for scientists and engineers to use in the detection and measurement of larger particles in their products or samples, in order to get a more comprehensive understanding of their products. By the use of Dynamic Imaging Particle analysis the FlowCam® Macro provides measurements of particles in suspensions that enable you to separately count different particle types in the same sample to produce highly significant statistical data, not just qualitative information.
The FlowCam Macro allows for the distinction of categories and sub-populations even in suspensions of larger sized particles. Measurements produced include particle count, concentration, area, aspect ratio, area based diameter, equivalent spherical diameter, length, volume and width.
There are also a number of advanced morphology parameters obtainable, including area (filled), transparency, circle fit, circularity, compactness, convex perimeter, convexity, elongation, fibre curl, fibre straightness, geodesic aspect ratio, geodesic length, geodesic thickness, perimeter, roughness and symmetry.
Like the FlowCam® continuous-imaging particle analysis system, which automatically detects and measures microscopic particles in the range of 2μm – 5mm, the FlowCam® Macro features the company's patented imaging technology. This can automatically detect thousands of individual particles and microorganisms in a sample in only seconds.
High-resolution, digital images of each particle detected are taken and measured in real-time based on their actual size and shape using more than 30 morphological parameters. The FlowCam Macro’s technology has been proven in the characterisation of a number of polymers, crystals, powders, microorganisms, long and curled fibres and a range of different chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage products.
