EPSRC rebrands lab facilities group to reflect ‘national importance’
23 Oct 2017
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has rebranded its Mid-Range Facilities as the EPSRC National Research Facilities (NRFs).
The change is designed to more accurately reflect the facilities’ role in the world-class laboratories landscape, thereby "providing a strategic resource of national importance", the EPSRC said.
The 12 facilities offer leading edge capabilities and technique development at a national level, as well as offering access to European research facilities.
They also provide access to instrumentation that would ordinarily be beyond the scope of an individual institution, EPSRC added.
I would encourage researchers and industry to find out more about where the facilities are and what they can do for them
EPSRC chief executive Philip Nelson
Facilities include the Nattional Chemical Database, the European Magnetic Field Laboratory and the EPSRC UK National Mass Spectrometry Facility.
EPSRC chief executive Philip Nelson, said: “The EPSRC National Research Facilities provide additional capability to a diverse user base in the UK and internationally. They are powerful tools for use in the country's scientific endeavours.
“I would encourage researchers and industry to find out more about where the facilities are and what they can do for them.”
