London Institute of Medical Sciences’ cutting-edge HQ complete

The Medical Research Council’s new home for its London Institute of Medical Sciences has reached completion with an official opening to be scheduled for early 2023.
The 12,500m2 building is due to house more than 40 research groups in a single space to enhance collaboration and its research.
The project involved collaboration with Imperial College and was located at Hammersmith Hospital campus in White City, the project involved engaging with multiple stakeholders with complex technical requirements on a congested hospital site.
Key laboratory design and engineering expertise was provided by consultants Buro Happold, whose spokesman Richard Walder predicted the new LMS would benefit the UK research community for many years.
Architects Hawkins\Brown worked on laboratory briefing and design services with Chris Abell and Bruce Nepp of Buro Happold to accommodate scientists’ requirements into technical facilities and workspace. These included super resolution imaging and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) suites, data centre and specialist support facilities.
