Vetter unveils plans for massive boost to Ravensburg pharma cold storage

German manufacturer Vetter is launching a “significant expansion” of its Ravensburg pharmaceutical materials warehouse, providing increased storage to meet what it described as increasing market demand.
The company said its new investment of more than €150 million will add 16,000 pallet spaces, more than doubling the existing 13,000 for cool storage. It will also increase the site’s overall total of pallet spaces for various temperature requirements to 68,000.
Said Vetter MD Carsten Press: “The latest phase of construction marks a strategic step in our warehouse development, driven by the increasing need for cool chain due to the many temperature-sensitive medications.”
The new space is expected to become available in 2028 with completion of the building shell scheduled for the end of 2026.
Vetter’s 22,500 sq m building will house sample storage for stability testing, additional manual and automated visual inspection rooms, a data centre and office facilities.
The site will focus primarily on cold storage, as well as chest and walk-in freezer capacity, specifically designed for high-profile pharmaceutical products and associated materials.
“The growing need for cool storage for innovative drug products increases the demand for additional storage space,” said senior vice president supply chain management Timo Usinger.
“As a result, the new facility will be fully cooled. We are using the latest automation and digitalisation technology, such as advanced monitoring systems and fully automated pallet storage and retrieval.”
