The packing in the Zic-Hilic guard columns is designed to be sacrificial to protect the analytical column and ensure that the lifetime of the main column is maximised
SeQuant announces the availability of the Zic-Hilic series of guard columns.
These biocompatible columns, which are placed between the injection valve and the Hilic HPLC column, serve to remove particulate matter and compounds that are highly absorbed to protect an analytical or preparative column from contamination by foreign matter, material which may have precipitated in solution or the retention of materials which may be irreversibly retained on the column.
The innovative design of the Zic-Hilic guard columns provides for a smaller internal diameter than the analytical column and thereby does not lead to any loss in overall separation efficiency and does not lead to any increase in the analysis time.
In addition, the design is optimized to reduce dead volumes and prevent extra column band broadening.
Zic-Hilic guard columns are available in a variety of sizes.
Smaller guard columns (ie, 14x1mm) are the same size as a standard fitting and fit directly into the inlet port of the column.
The only thing that is added to the flow path is a 1.0x14mm packed guard column bed, and no extra fittings or couplers are required.
For large columns (larger than 2.1mm), the 20x2.1mm guard column is recommended.
This is a stand-alone pre-column that is easily connected to the analytical column with a simple zero dead volume connector.
The guard column can be readily replaced by the user and is designed to prevent premature failure of the analytical column.
The packing in the Zic-Hilic guard columns is designed to be sacrificial to protect the analytical column and ensure that the lifetime of the main column is maximised.
The Zic-Hilic guard columns are commonly used in conjunction with a solvent inlet filter to optimise the quality of the sample/mobile phase that is delivered to the column.
