Scientific and Chemical (SciChem) is offering two special environmental and health and safety seminars at its annual event at Haydock Park, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, UK, on Monday 19 March 2007

"This is the first time we have included dedicated laboratory-based seminars at one of our annual events," explained Gerald Bullivant, industrial sales director of SciChem.
"They are aimed at quality control departments and laboratories in industry, pharmaceuticals, utilities and universities, in fact any company where analytical science, testing and chemicals are used".
Presenting the seminars are lecturer Martin Adlem, a technical grade member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and Malcolm Wilkins, member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Adlem is a health and safety consultant working for a number of leading British companies and Institutions throughout the country.
Wilkins and his colleague Margaret Munro develop and deliver environmental training programmes for International, blue chip companies and local authorities.
A mix of lectures, discussions and exercises, the Health and Safety - Risk and Coshh Assessment seminar will feature: Why Risk Assessment is required, The HSE's 5-step Approach; Hazard Identification and Simple Assessment Techniques; The Hierarchy of Control; Record keeping and Review; The COSHH Regulations and Their Requirements; How COSHH Assessments Differ From Other Risk Assessments; and COSHH Records.
Developed into three key parts, the Environmental Legislation seminar will cover: Regulations - Hazardous Waste, Oil Storage, Groundwater, WEEE and Vehicle End-of-Life; a demonstration of tracking Netregs and CEDREC; and finally use of an Environmental Management Systems to ensure compliance with legislation.
"Adding a choice of laboratory-based seminars onto our programme is new for us, but we anticipate a large take-up," added Gerald Bullivant.
