In the 20 years since the company was founded, Camspec has grown to become the leading UK supplier of UV/visible spectrophotometers, with a reputation for product design and application innovation
In the early 1980s, when manual instrumentation was being replaced by processor control, physicist Tony Moss saw an opening for a well designed manual instrument.
The M302 had automatic lamp and filter changes significantly reducing the number of controls, and a very large sample compartment.
This, in turn, lead to the formation in 1986 of Camspec in Sawston, with manufacturing facilities being established at Kings Lynn, Norfolk.
The company has marked its 20th anniversary with the launch of its M550 spectrophotometer, to complete the M500 series.
This now includes the M501 single beam scanning and M550 double beam UV/visible products.
The M501 is designed to offer users more features and greater performance than would normally be found in a product which costs as little as GBP2700 ex vat, while the European Pharmacopoeia 5.2 compliant M550 is a top of the range instrument designed for both research and routine use.
The M500 series is the first new range of Camspec products to be launched since the company entered into a design, production and supply partnership with a Chinese scientific instrumentation company.
Looking back on twenty years of business, Camspec's managing director, Tony Moss, commented: "I am proud of Camspec's success over the last twenty years".
"The company has been at the forefront of product development in our industry - for example, it was one of the first to use PC Windows control and was the first to introduce touch-screen technology - and our specialist experience enables Camspec to give our customers exceptional technical support".
He went on to say: "I am looking forward to the future with confidence.
"Our new Chinese design, production and supply partnership is working well, and our UK software development capabilities are excellent.
"I believe Camspec is well positioned to continue to lead the way in UV/visible spectrophotometry".
Working with an extensive international network of distributors, Camspec's products are used in a significant range of global research, quality control and conformance operations.
Specialist applications include textile SPF (sun protection factor) measurement, a Nato colour testing system for paints and fabrics, and CSF bilirubin/porphyrin analysis in hospitals.
