The ECACC Safe Deposit Service has been developed as a second site repository to serve as a precaution against the possibility of damage to the depositor's primary cell stock
The service provides the depositor with an off-site storage facility for valuable cell lines.
ECACC has been storing cell banks for the scientific community for nearly twenty years and has one of the largest liquid nitrogen repositories in Europe.
The facility can accommodate 40 liquid nitrogen vessels each containing 20,000 vials.
The standard safe deposit service offers:.
Security: restricted access to authorised personnel only; staff on site 24 hours a day; all the inventory storage vessels are configured for automatic liquid nitrogen replenishment and each vessel is alarmed and monitored by an electronic telemetry system.
The building benefits from the high level of security that applies to the Health Protection Agency, Porton Down.
Monitoring: annual resuscitation of monitor cell lines that are stored in the Safe Deposit vessels; continuous temperature monitoring and logging by validated temperature chart recorder; event logging and reporting.
Inventory control: state-of-the-art barcode-driven inventory control software, Safe Deposit Statement on first deposition recording ampoule IDs, location and numbers.
Progress reports: annual reporting of stock status, stock movements, the maintenance of storage conditions and the results from monitor cell lines.
