Espere Healthcare announces the launch of specialist DermaSilk gloves to help reduce the itching associated with contact dermatitis and assist in skin healing
Contact dermatitis is a major problem for employees in many industries such as construction, healthcare, hairdressing and cleaning.
Reports suggest that as many as 20% of healthcare workers and 50% of hairdressers have some form of hand dermatitis.
while many authorities have now recognised the causative agents of contact dermatitis and taken some steps to help prevent new cases from developing very little can be done for those already affected by the condition and many key workers are forced to leave their chosen professions because of their contact dermatitis.
Now researchers in Italy have come up with a fabric glove which helps reduce the impact of contact dermatitis on the lives of sufferers.
The fabric is called DermaSilk and is a combination of pure, medical grade silk and an everlasting antimicrobial which is permanently embedded into the silk fibres.
The result is a closely fitting glove which helps to reduce the itching associated with contact dermatitis and absorbs excessive moisture from the surface of the skin to prevent maceration.
Finally, the antimicrobial coating, made from AEM 5772/5 actively protects from bacterial and fungal super-infection to keep the hands fresh as well as dry.
Clinical research has demonstrated that DermaSilk is superior to cotton in reducing the itch and accelerating the healing process in dry skin conditions and the DermaSilk garments are already finding wide acceptance in the treatment of conditions such as atopic dermatitis in children.
DermaSilk gloves can be worn by many employees under protective gloves and can also be worn overnight to help soothe hands that have been stressed by long periods under occlusion during the day.
They have a unique bi-layered knitted structure with pure silk on the inside and Coolmax fabric on the outside to enhance their durability.
The gloves are intended for prolonged use and can be hand washed in a mild detergent and dried flat on a towel.
Companies that take their hand care seriously should consider DermaSilk gloves for their at-risk employees and Espere says it is happy to talk to both corporate and individual customers.
