Helping to eradicate superbugs such as the new deadly strain of MRSA, PVL+ MHRA which is killing young and healthy people, Kalamazoo Security Print has launched its range of Touch Safe paper products
Touch Safe products help limit potential incidents of cross-contamination by using a brand new technology which kills microbes on contact, helping healthcare staff to combat this ever increasing threat.
Cross-contamination remains one of the main methods of spreading the bacteria and not only occurs through healthcare professional-to-patient contact but even through patient records being handled by medical staff.
Superbugs, including MRSA, pose a growing challenge in the healthcare sector.
Staff charged with combating this increasing problem require an armoury of defences to assist them in fighting the spread of MRSA and other easily transmitted diseases.
Touch Safe products such as patient records, case note folders, record holders and binders constructed of paper, moulding compounds, thermoplastics, laminates and paints, have an integrated additive containing silver ions which instantly kill microbes on contact.
This provides a permanent hygienic solution active 24-hours a day throughout the lifetime of the product.
Safe to use in any hospital or healthcare facility, the additive has no side effects and is non-toxic.
Although certain bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics, the additive used by Kalamazoo does not cause bacterial mutation.
The additive used by Kalamazoo, approved by the EPA, FDA and the EU Biocide Directive, was independently tested and verified by the Medical Institute for Microbiology at the University of Milan, the Virology Institute at the University of Catania, the SIK Institute in Gothenburg and LawLabs in Birmingham and clinical research showed that 99.9 per cent of bacteria are killed within 24-hours.
Maureen Bott, product and development manager at Kalamazoo said: "The new potent and deadly PVL+ MHRA strain of MRSA is of great concern to healthcare professionals and the public alike.
"Doctors and nurses today are very fastidious about hygiene, but situations can arise where patient records carrying MRSA or other superbugs are passed from one healthcare professional to another.
"It is therefore imperative that as well as having rigorous hygiene practices, the paperwork and patient record holders used within hospitals are also resistant to these microbes.
"Kalamazoo is offering another tool to help stop the spread of these dangerous diseases at the source where cross-contamination commonly occurs."
