Nikon Instruments Europe and Aperio Technologies reach an agreement that appoints Nikon as the official European distributor of Aperio's digital microscope slide scanners and software products
Nikon will distribute the full line of Aperio's award winning ScanScope slide scanning systems and Spectrum digital pathology information management software to the clinical market, including hospitals and academic medical centres within Europe.
Aperio will continue to serve the biopharma market in Europe directly.
Welcoming the new agreement, Peter Drent, deputy general manager at Nikon Instruments Europe said: "Aperio was the first company to appreciate that slide digitisation was only a part of the digital pathologist needs.
"Aperio's software development shows comprehensive understanding of how to incorporate slide digitisation into the pathology workflow.
"By offering Aperio ScanScope solutions alongside Nikon's microscopes and digital cameras, we are able to offer a full line of digital pathology solutions.
" Nikon pioneered the digital pathology market with the first dedicated network microscopy camera, the DN100, through to the latest digital imaging concepts in the Coolscope and the growing range of Digital Sight cameras".
Dirk Soenksen, CEO, from Aperio Technologies commented, "With its established presence and market leading dynamic telepathology solutions created with the Coolscope, Nikon Instruments is an ideal partner to help us build on and extend our presence in Europe".
With its experience in Europe-wide support and commitment to full customer satisfaction, Nikon Instruments Europe will ensure that the sales of the Aperio ScanScope range will be supported by its extensive service and support network in Europe, offering full warranty and extended warranty options.
Aperio's digital pathology systems are based on the company's patented linear array-based ScanScope slide scanners, which create seamless, true colour whole slide images from an entire glass slide in a matter of minutes.
Aperio's slide scanning systems include the ScanScope GL-E configured for education, the ScanScope GL-T configured for telepathology, as well as the five-slide ScanScope CS and the 120-slide high throughput ScanScope XT.
Aperio's slide scanning systems are offered with Spectrum software to enable secure viewing, analysis and management of digital slides and other images in multi-user, multi-site environments.
Nikon will also resell Aperio TMALab software and Aperio's suite of image analysis algorithms.
